Humboldt County Animal Shelter

Project Objectives Client's Commentary

In 2003 Humboldt County learned that by law, they were required to build a new animal shelter. When the facility was ready for construction Danco Builders was one of three local companies invited to bid on this project. As the low-bidder, Danco Builders was awarded the project.

Project Highlights
The Humboldt County Animal Shelter was designed with both the comfort of the animals and potential pet adopters in mind. A large, open reception area greets visitors as they walk through the front doors. The shelter houses both cats and dogs in separate areas with a maximum capacity of 55 dogs and 64 cats. The dog kennels have been designed to allow the animals to move freely from indoor shelter to outside space. These kennels can also be closed off temporarily, keeping the dogs on one side or the other, to allow for easy cleaning. There are also separate outdoor exercise areas for cats. The concrete slabs in each kennel feature hydroponic heating to keep the •oors warm. New owners also have the opportunity to shop for essential supplies in the on-site store.

“DANCO Project Superintendent Robin Bradshaw and his crew were great to work with. Several times throughout the project we came upon issues with the County’s building speci•cations. The DANCO team was competent in successfully resolving each issue. Additionally, now that the Shelter is up and running, DANCO continues to respond to any questions or concerns.”
